Tsai's address clearly positioned the election victory as Taiwan's voters standing up to #China's threats against Taiwan and the people's desire for sovereignty and democracy.
That was the theme of her campaign, and the result means Taiwan will see less reason than ever for compromise with China, especially as voters who identify more with Taiwan get younger, so how will China respond? It is now under pressure in both #HongKong and Taiwan, and it will be interesting to see whether it continues to play hardball or looks for a pathway to dialogue.
